Lions Gate Activities

Regularly Scheduled Activities

Lions Gate Residents are welcome to participate in the wide variety of activities available in the community. Please check the Lions Gate calendar or the Mail Rooms for date, place and time of each activity.

LEO Luncheon: The ladies of Lions Gate meet once a month for lunch at various area restaurants. LEO Lunches are a great way to get to know your neighbors, make new friends and visit area restaurants. Sign-up sheets with location, time and cost are posted in the Mail Rooms.

Men's Breakfast: The men of Lions Gate meet twice a month at a local restaurant for breakfast and conversation. Location and times are posted in the Mail Rooms.

Designing Women: Ladies meet once a week to work on creative projects including knitting, crocheting, beading, etc. Work on your own on-going project or come and learn a new skill. The group enjoys sharing ideas and supplies.

Games

Mah Jongg: A game that originated in China. Mah Jongg is commonly played by four players. Similar to the Western card game rummy, mahjong is a game of skill, strategy, and calculation and involves a degree of chance. The game is played with a set of 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and Chinese culture. New and experienced players are welcome. Game sets are provided.

Hand and Foot: A popular game at Lions Gate, Hand and Foot is a North American game related to canasta. Each player is dealt two sets of cards using one as the 'hand' and one as the 'foot'. There are numerous variations of the game and no 'standard' rules.

Bridge: A trick-taking game using a standard 52-card deck. It is played by four players in two competing partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other around a table. At Lions Gate the bridge is usually played once-a-month during the day. A volunteer hostess organizes a lunch break mid-way through the game.

Poker: A family of card games involving betting and individual play, whereby the winner is determined by the ranks and combinations of players' cards, some of which remain hidden until the end of the game. Games are organized on a weekly basis.

Pinochle: A trick-taking card game typically for two to four players and played with a 48-card deck. Players score points by trick-taking and also by forming combinations of cards into melds.

Sports & Exercise

Pickleball: A racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis The game is popular with 55+ active adults. Our tennis courts have separate lineage for pickleball.

Tennis: Two or four players strike a ball with rackets over a net stretched across a court. Tennis at Lions gate is played on an artificial surface that was refurbished in 2015.

Water Aerobics: The water aerobics exercise class is enjoyed seasonally in the Lions Gate heated pool. The class is led by an area resident and no experience is necessary.

Lions Gate residents are encouraged to organize new activities.
